BETHLEHEM, Pa. (WLVT) - It's been a while since we've been able to look forward to a new movie in theaters, but this film hitting Lehigh Valley cinemas this weekend may have even more reason for us to get excited.

Easton native Taylor Purdee wrote, directed, and stars in "Killian & the Comeback Kids," a movie shot in the Lehigh Valley and loosely based on the area.

It's a movie about millennials moving back home after college and forming a band. Killian's folk band gets a chance to play at his hometown's "Fest," and yes it's a lot like Bethlehem's Musikfest.

Purdee says the crew was almost entirely from the area, but the cast is a mix.

“Some people, it’s their first gig. This one girl, she’s like 19, she’s a YouTube star. She comes in for one scene and blows the roof off musically. So you couldn’t be more new media to have this 19-year-old YouTube star, and then Academy Award winner Lee Grant, and this sort of generation sweep of actor, musicians, and performers," says Purdee, a graduate of Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Performing Arts

"One of the blue men from Blue Man Group came to play the drummer so that was great. So it’s like, 'Do I know you because you’re on television or do I know you because you’re my neighbor?'” said Purdee.

"Killian & the Comeback Kids "is playing in nine states, including several theaters in the Lehigh Valley. Among them: Frank Banko Alehouse Cinemas at ArtsQuest, Movie Tavern Trexlertown, and Regal Cinemas at Northampton Crossings in Lower Nazareth Township.
