STROUDSBURG, Pa. (WLVT) - The Grow and Give Garden is looking to serve the community in more ways than one, by teaching young people how to garden, while also helping feed those in need.

"Many people do need some help here and there, so I thought it was a good idea for the abundance of our vegetables to be shared with local food pantries," said founder of Grow and Give, Nia Huber.

Vegetables are being donated from places like Canfield's Pet and Farm, and Lowe's. Huber said everything they grow will be organic.
"I think it's important to have fruits and vegetables included from a health and nutrition perspective," said Huber. Youth groups like the Key Club at Stroudsburg High School will be involved in maintaining and harvesting the garden.

“They will get to understand what it’s like to work with our soil. What it’s like to fertilize and how it is to grow a vegetable," said Huber.

"It’s great to learn how to do things for other people rather than yourselves," said Stroudsburg High School junior, Sierra Holbert. Holbert, along with senior Angie Augugliaro both agree that they will learn a lot from this experience. “It’s a great way to help the earth and also your community, while also growing relationships with others," said Augugliaro.

The garden is located at the Helen Amhurst 3rd Street Park in Stroudsburg, and it currently has four plant beds. Huber said they are looking to get a total of 16 beds at the park, and they have plans to expand to other parks in the future.
