Tropical Storm Isaias sweeps through eastern Pennsylvania, bringing a possible tornado.
LEHIGH VALLEY, PA (WLVT-TV) - Tropical storm Isaias caused major issues across the Lehigh Valley Tuesday, dropping six inches of rain in the span of a few hours. The rainfall triggered flash flooding across the region, and wind gusts left tens of thousands without power.
Among local impacts, including flooding was seen on the typically calm Monocacy Creek in Bethlehem, which overflowed its banks near the Broad Street Bridge. Heavy flooding was also seen near the 1818 Tavern in Northampton County, and the Nancy Run Fire Company had to make water rescue on Seventh Street Bethlehem Township.
As we head deeper into hurricane season, EPAWA Meteorology Consultant Bobby Martrich says this year’s weak La Nina pattern could mean more storms for the Valley.
“So there will be an active track continuing in the Atlantic Basin, and we’ll still have to keep an eye out over the next couple of months for something that could possibly impact our region, but it’s too early to tell if something will hit here directly or even the United States,” he said.
Martrich says the most active time for our area hasn’t even started, it’s typically mid-August through mid-October.
