ALLENTOWN, Pa. (WLVT) - Just days after a fire destroyed 10 houses in Allentown, people in the community poured in support by donating clothes, shoes, and household items for the victims.

The fire happened early Sunday around 3:20 a.m. Fire officials have not yet determined a cause, but they said crews had to demolish 10 of the buildings involved to begin their investigation.

Now, physical donations are being collected at Promise Neighborhoods in Allentown at 1101 Hamilton St. Organizers said they’ve received a lot of clothing items, but they are still in need of socks, underwear, baby diapers, wipes, and personal hygiene products. “These are all daily uses that we know, even though we’re giving them donations now, they’re going to need very shortly in a couple days or a week later,” said Founder and CEO of community organization I Am Reciprocity, Luis Perez.

United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley, Community Action Committee of the Lehigh Valley, and the Lehigh Valley American Red Cross announced Tuesday that they are joining forces so you can also donate money specifically to the families involved in this fire. The monetary donations will go to the families, and it will also help them pay bills or cover expenses during this time.

Promise Neighborhoods will be holding an event on Friday from 5:30 to 8 p.m. to give all the donations to the families, so if you have anything you’d like to donate before then, you are welcome to do so.
