BETHLEHEM, PA - THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 2022 — PBS39 announces the season 9 release of the public television series Articulate with Jim Cotter. Beginning April 1, nine new 30-minute episodes will feed from American Public Television (APT) to stations nationwide.
Since 2015, Articulate has informed and uplifted audiences with stories of how creative thinking shapes our world. Through interviews, live performances, and distinctive storytelling, the series provides a one-of-a-kind window into the ideas and experiences of diverse artists, from authors and architects to musicians and dancers. The recipient of the 2020 Daytime Emmy® Award for Outstanding Sound Mixing, Articulate was nominated for Outstanding Arts and Popular Culture Program in 2021.
Season 9 of Articulate invites audiences to make the acquaintance of Broadway and major stage luminaries, to consider the experience of immigrant authors with feet in two worlds, and, to experience intimate performances by celebrated musicians. Guests include acclaimed nonfiction writer Susan Orlean (The Orchid Thief, The Library Book); Billboard chart-topping rock band The Killers; landscape designer, public artist, and urbanist Sarah Zewde; and award-winning composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz (Godspell, Wicked).
Host Jim Cotter said of the new season, “It is hard to believe that Articulate is entering its seventh year and its ninth national season. We have profiled over 250 artists, produced numerous concert shows, and created thematic episodes on topics ranging from Sylvia Plath’s legacy to a cultural history of shoes. We hope our audiences, both old and new, will enjoy a season that, more than ever, reflects everything we’ve learned on our creative journey.”
A new Articulate website, launched in 2021, features a searchable library of nearly four hundred episodes, segments, and web exclusives. The site also includes a searchable directory of high school lesson plans based on Articulate segments. Created for use in physical and virtual classrooms, the plans integrate the arts and creative problem-solving into STEM, ELA, and social studies instruction.
