EFFORT, Pa. (WLVT) - The Scouts BSA Minsi Trails Council is holding their annual Settlers Camp, and this year, female troops are participating as well.

"We’re really excited to have them here with us," said Scout Executive and CEO of the Minsi Trails Council, Rick Christ. "It’s the same experience that we want them to have as their male counterparts." Last year, the Boy Scouts of America changed their name to Scouts BSA, and decided to admit girls. The organization spent time collecting data to find out what works best for families.

“Families wanted something more convenient for the families so they don’t have to go out two to three different nights a week," said Christ. "So the boy scouts of america created the Scouts BSA program, which allows young ladies and young men to go together as a family to offer family scouting to all families that were willing to do so.”

Kaitlyn Stanton is with Troop 2019, and this is her first time coming to camp. She said she is enjoying her experience so far, and she likes doing theatre and game design. "I’m looking forward to making new friends and getting to know everyone more," said Stanton. "Since this is my first time here, I’m trying to make the most of it.”
