ALLENTOWN, Pa. (WLVT) - Over 30 different colors, morethan 10 gallons and 450 hours later, the new "Welcome to Allentown" mural near Eighth and Hamilton streets is complete.

A nationwide search led the Allentown Arts Commission to artist Mila Sketch, of Austin, Texas. Sketch says she didn't just submit a piece of art, she researched Allentown.

"First stage of my research was history, then city marks, then community," she explained.

The mural is on the wall of a PPL substation, right across from several homes. PBS39 spoke with Peter Garcia, who lives there.

"What was there before was like that over there -- plain," he said. "Now this here kind of opens your mind. It opens your mind to good things."

The Allentown Arts Commission has another mural project they will be announcing soon.

You can follow along on their Instagram @AllentownArts to find out more, or visit the Arts Commission section of the city website.
