New Billboard Campaign Aims to Change Perceptions of People of Color

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (WLVT) - An Allentown neighborhood organization has launched a billboard campaign featuring kids and young adults who are doing great things.

The tagline: Help us change perceptions.

The billboard campaign is in partnership with Adams Outdoor Advertising.

It features young people of color and, besides its mission to influence perceptions, it also is intended to inspire the youth of Allentown. So says Hasshan Batts, executive director of Promise Neighborhoods of the Lehigh Valley.

"We put forth a picture of a black male and there's these perceptions that come forth," he said. "But there's also the realities of all of the things -- the achievements and the movement that's happening within our community. And we really want to highlight that."

Kids need to have hope and realize they have access and opportunity, Batts said.

"The image says there are so many things that you can become in this world, and that the sky is the limit," he said.
