JOAN LUNDEN WITH LEHIGH UNIVERSITY'S COLLEGE OF HEALTH
the inaugural lecture of the virtual Population Health Colloquium Series
BETHLEHEM, Pa. (WLVT) - Construction is ongoing at Lehigh University’s Health Science and Technology building off Webster Street in south Bethlehem, but the inaugural semester is well under way.
Thursday kicked off a virtual series of seminars at the College of Health with journalist Joan Lunden speaking to students. Lunden told students, "journalists kind of stand in that space between scientists and the public.”
She addressed media’s role in guiding populations during health crises with students taking population health classes.
The journalist, author, host, and motivational speaker said “I would venture to say we all have a new appreciation for the need to study the health of populations around the globe, and to track potential health crises, like the pandemic that we are now living through. But I do think that the term population health is still new to a lot of people. “
Associate Professor Eduardo Gomez moderated the session spanning more than an hour.
“The purpose of the colloquium series is to bring together different local, national, international experts to discuss various issues in population health,” he said.
Lectures like this are not only open to students, but the public as well and are announced on Lehigh University’s website. Lunden will also be hosting a PBS television series called ‘Second Opinion with Joan Lunden’, which will premiere in January.
