BETHLEHEM TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WLVT) - Dr. Eric Schenkel of Valley Allergy Care in Bethlehem Township said he expects this pollen season to be terrible for people with allergies.

“Rain washes pollen down, but after the rain, the sun comes out, and pollen counts are going to explode,” said Dr. Schenkel. He said we’ve been experiencing tree pollen, and we are getting closer to the peak of grass pollen, which he said usually peaks around Memorial Day.

Dr. Schenkel said pollen counts are highest in the morning. “Staying indoors in the morning is important,” said Dr. Schenkel. “If you have any pets that go outside, wash the pets down when they come inside because they’re going to bring in pollen.”

He offered another piece of advice for people with sensitivity to pollen. “Don’t dry your clothing outside because that’ll accumulate pollen, and if you do go outside, shower right away when you come inside,” said Dr. Schenkel.

If any of your symptoms become too serious or you have questions about your allergies, always call your doctor.
