PA NATIONAL GUARDSMAN IN D.C.

WASHINGTON D.C. (WLVT-TV) - Pennsylvania deployed 23-hundred National Guard troops to Washington D.C. following violence in early January. Reporter Brittany Sweeney spoke with a local member about his experience.

Private First Class Jeffrey Dollak, of Jim Thorpe, is one of thousands tasked with keeping the peace for the Inauguration following the January 6th violent protests. Dollak says "so far I haven’t really seen anything crazy going on. There’s not many people walking around due to COVID I assume and the security, so there’s not much attention going on here.” He enlisted just two years ago. He’s a technician helping to maintain hundreds of vehicles sent to DC from Pennsylvania. "To make sure everybody's like within their civil rights, like be able to express their rights, make sure that there's no harm done to buildings, make sure everything goes peacefully. We're only here to make sure that the people are okay and to make sure there's no damage done to buildings and just make sure that it goes smoothly.”

Pennsylvania National Guardsmen make up 10% of the troops currently deployed to Washington DC. They are expected to remain there until at least January 25th.
