EASTON, Pa. (WLVT) — In this week's PBS39 Culture Shock report, we show you how to support local artisans or try your hand at archery. Plus, the first Easton Heritage Day is going digital. Our featured artist, Moe Jerant from LV Drum Circle, shows us how to relax with a drum-inspired rhythm.

FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS

One of the top outdoor fine art and craft shows in the nation is going virtual this year. The Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts is usually held in downtown State College around Penn State’s campus. This year, the work of over 150 artists will be available to purchase online. Items include ceramics, jewelry, paintings, sculpture and wearable art. You can also join a yoga class, tap dance lesson or mixed media demo on Saturday — all streamed on the festival’s Facebook page.

ARCHERY

Lehighton’s Archery Addictions sports center is hosting a grand re-opening event on Saturday. The indoor range includes bow, crossbow and slingshot practice areas. The free event starts at 10 a.m. and includes live demonstrations from professional instructors. The group will operate under CDC guidelines and all guests are required to wear masks. Visit archeryaddictions.com to learn more.

EASTON HERITAGE DAY

How well do you know Easton? You can learn about the city’s history during a virtual Heritage Day celebration on Saturday. Local historians will livestream from the Easton Heritage Facebook page to discuss Easton’s early days.

"They’ll get a history lesson in a fun way," Marcy McKinney, events manager for the Greater Easton Development Partnership, told PBS39. "We’ll show a quick video about butter making, which is actually quite easy to do. We’ve come across so much interesting city history. In the 1930s and 40s, Easton was the place to be, I mean, it was a hot spot! So we’ll have demonstrations, some music and a ton of photos of Easton throughout the years."

Live demonstrations include glassblowing and recreations of a few of Benjamin Franklin's experiments. The stream, which starts at noon, includes an interactive trivia game for guests to test their knowledge of Easton.

FEATURED ARTIST

This week's featured artist, Moe Jerant of LV Drum Circle, teaches and practices the art of djembe drum music. You can watch her performance on Friday, Jul. 11, 2020 at the conclusion of PBS39 News Tonight at 6:30 p.m. on PBS39 or in the video player below.
