BETHLEHEM, Pa. (WLVT) - Students from Northampton Community College competed in a culinary competition on Monday using the new, chocolate-filled marshmallow called Stuffed Puffs.

“I didn’t know what to expect, but I didn’t expect to win,” said winner of the first ever Stuffed Puffs Recipe Contest, Luke LaMontia. He is a student at NCC, and winning first place also won him a $1,000 scholarship. “That’ll definitely take a dent out of my tuition,” said LaMontia. I’m very grateful that they gave us this opportunity.”

The competition was held at Factory on Bethlehem’s south side. Factory invests money into food, drink, and pet food companies to help them and their products grow, as long as they move into the 40,000-square foot facility. Stuffed Puffs is one of the brands housed at Factory, though the actual treat is not made in Bethlehem.

Six students competed using Stuffed Puffs in their recipes, and students like Veronica Trevino said the competition allowed her to be creative in creating a breakfast dish with the ingredients. “I made a pretzel sandwich, with a bruleed marshmallow, pepper jack cheese, chipotle-coffee-marinated bacon and an over-easy egg,” said Trevino.

Many of the students are working to create their own food businesses in the future.
