BUSHKILL TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WLVT) - People with special needs are getting a unique therapy experience by riding horses at Equi-librium Therapeutic Horsemanship near Nazareth.
“The horse isn’t judging,” said CEO Cheryl Baker. “It’s a really empowering experience for them.”
The participants spend semesters at a time working on motor skills and physical development. Baker said the lessons are for people who may have mental or behavioral challenges as well. “Working one-on-one with a horse is very helpful,” said Baker.
This program usually has about 300 riders per year, and Baker said most participants stay with the program for several years. For parents and families, Baker said it is rewarding to see the progress of the participants.
“They see things that their children can do for the very first time while they are here,” said Baker. “They may say their first word. They may do something that they otherwise hadn’t done in the past.”
Equi-librium is in the process of registering for their upcoming spring semester, so if you need more information on classes, call 610.365.2266 or click here to visit their website.
