Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway, part of Reading and Northern Railroad company, announced in October that it was ending its relationship with the borough, and the excursion train rides would no longer be available in Jim Thorpe. Jim Thorpe borough filed a lawsuit attempting to collect almost $100,000 in unpaid amusement taxes.

Since then, both entities met with business owners and the Jim Thorpe Tourism Agency to come to an agreement. Train rides were back for a short time in February, and gone again.

Last week, Governor Wolf signed a bill, and train companies that primarily transport freight are no longer required to pay amusement tax. Business owners say they're glad, because the train rides are a large attraction to town.

Train rides begin on Friday, August 14th. Click here for the schedule and to buy tickets.
