FOCUS, PBS39's Emmy-nominated weekly news magazine program, returns for its fourth season with an all-new episode on Tuesday, September 20 at 7:30 p.m. Hosted by Laura McHugh and featuring reporters Brittany Garzillo and Grover Silcox, Season 4 of FOCUS will highlight health, arts, and politics alongside the people, places, and issues that matter to our community. "The Lehigh Valley is full of exciting and interesting stories," said Laura McHugh, Executive Producer, Local Programming. "We're excited to tell these stories during an all-new season of FOCUS." The Sept. 20 season premiere will feature a segment showcasing the latest advancements in cancer diagnosis and treatment. In addition, viewers will have a chance to meet two local Olympic athletes, and tour the National Museum of Industrial History. Additional highlights upcoming this season on FOCUS include:
- FOCUS on Health, including mental health, addiction, and heroin abuse.
- FOCUS on the Arts, with a behind-the-scenes look at two Lehigh Valley-based films, Getting Grace and Billboard.
- FOCUS on Politics, with two live Congressional candidate debates, interviews with local candidates for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, and a series of voter roundtable discussions.
PBS39 Receives 2 Emmy® Award Nominations
Bethlehem, PA -August 10, 2016 - PBS39 is proud to announce the receipt of 2 Emmy® Award nominations from the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS).
The team received Mid-Atlantic EMMY® Award nominations for Children/Youth/Teen Program or Special and for Historic/Cultural Program Feature/Segment.
Senior Vice President of Education and Production Teri Haddad, Ed. D., received a nomination as the producer of "Cosmo's World: Trees," an Emmy® Award-winning educational series produced in partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Producer/director Scott Paul, video editor Steven Whitcombe and videographer Steve Kauffman were also nominated for their work on the program.
"Cosmo's World has a proven track record of connecting kids to their environment and building excitement about science," said Teri Haddad, VP of Education and Production, PBS39. "We're committed to educating our young viewers and are honored to be recognized by our peers for this program yet again."
Reporter/producer Grover Silcox, videographer Jeff Frederick and editor Lisa Robinson received nominations for "A Witness to History." This segment shared the story of Dr. George Sakheim, who served as an interpreter during the Nuremberg War Crimes Trials. This segment was produced for PBS39's weekly news magazine program FOCUS.
