A Message to our 2016 Artists of the Month

Posted by Gerard Longo on

When I was first asked to lead PBS39’s Artist of the Month program in the summer of 2015, I was excited for the challenge. I was still fairly new here at PBS39, and this would be the first major project that I would have the chance to lead.

What a project it is! I have always enjoyed, supported, and participated in the arts, and I was thrilled to have the opportunity to give twelve young artists a platform for their artistic expression. In late 2015, we received dozens of submissions from talented students from across our Valley, and had many difficult decisions to make as we narrowed our gifted field down to 12 winners for the 2016 campaign.

Earlier this week, those students joined us at the PPL Public Media Center at PBS39 for a year-end Artist of the Month Art Show, a culmination (and celebration) of this program’s fantastic inaugural run. I must say that it has been an honor to get to know each of these students over the past year, and to see their talents come to life before our eyes. Likewise, it has been a privilege to tell their stories, as artists, online and on PBS39 television throughout 2016. We were grateful for the opportunity to host these bright, creative young stars alongside their families and educators on Monday afternoon.

To our 2016 winners, I say, one more time: Thank you. Thanks for sharing your time, talents, and passions with PBS39. We wish you nothing but the best in the future, and we are sure that participating in the first-ever PBS39 Artist of the Month program is just the beginning of each of your creative successes. Please drop in and see us once in a while, and never lose your inspiration to create.
