PBS39 to Re-Broadcast Second to None: Liberty High School Grenadier Band on Wed., Sept. 7
Fall is fast-approaching in the Lehigh Valley. As the region's children return to school and the season's high school sports begin, this time of year also signifies the return of a grand local tradition: the Liberty High School Grenadier Band.
To recognize the Grenadier Band as it begins to march again, PBS39 will re-broadcast its popular original production, Second to None: Liberty High School Grenadier Band, on Wed., Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
Second to None documents the pageantry, tradition, and history of the Liberty High School Grenadier Band, from its beginnings in 1926 to the present day. This original PBS39 production shares some of the Grenadier Band's most memorable moments, including performing in President Truman's Inaugural Parade, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Pasadena Rose Parade, and at anniversaries of the Pearl Harbor bombings.
Second to None also gives viewers the opportunity to meet three of the four directors in the band's history, listen to alumni share their stories, and hear from students who carry on the band's tradition as they march to the band's motto, Second to None.
"PBS39 has worked tirelessly to bring the story of the Liberty High School Grenadier Band to life," said Teri Haddad, EdD, SVP of Education and Production. "The community support we've received for this project is overwhelming, and we are especially grateful to those who helped make this production possible."
Viewers during this special re-broadcast of Second to None will have the opportunity to receive a band-related "Thank You" gift by making a pledge of financial support to PBS39. Gifts include a copy of the production on DVD or Blu-Ray, as well as a special edition tote bag made from the pants of a Grenadier Band uniform.
Community supporters of Second to None include: Coca-Cola Bottling Company of the Lehigh Valley; Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem; Air Products; Fritch Fuels; the Frank Banko Family; Herron Funeral Homes and Crematory; Adams Outdoor; Bethlehem Education Association; Bethlehem Fine Arts Commission; Capital BlueCross; King, Spry, Herman, Freund & Faul, LLC; Pearson Funeral Home; Paxos Restaurants, Inc.; and Robert Klock (Thrivent Financial). In addition, PBS39 received financial and historical contributions to this project from band alumni, parents, and members.
