Another Community-Oriented Weekend at PBS39
The last weekend of July 2015 was a beautiful one, and the good folks here at PBS39 lived it to the fullest by making a difference throughout the community.
The fun started on Saturday, when the mighty PBS39 TeleBears took the field for the Whiffleball Challenge for Charity, presented by Miracle League of the Lehigh Valley. Comprised of PBS39 employees, their friends, and relatives, the TeleBears played a 12 p.m. game against Viamedia before facing the O’Neill Family in the tournament’s 2 p.m. matchup. In between, the team had the opportunity to act as “Angels in the Outfield” during a game featuring the Miracle League’s players.
Individual members of the team, as well as other employees and friends of PBS39, further supported the Miracle League by raising a total of $890. PBS39 plans to match this figure, which will bring the station’s grand contribution total to $1,780. The funds will help the league cover uniform, equipment and operations costs, and ensure that it will continue to provide a safe, fun baseball experience for children with special needs and other developmental disabilities.
The good times – and baseball activities – continued on Sunday. PBS39’s Brittany Garzillo was on-hand at the Da Vinci Science Center in Allentown for its “Wet and Wild Weekend,” where she had the honor of participating in the event’s Celebrity Dunk Tank. Brittany had a blast as many of the young attendees threw balls and hit the target, dunking Brittany a whopping total of 15 times!
Also taking turns in the Celebrity Dunk Tank were Mike Kelly and Steph Wells from B104’s Mike & Kelly in the Morning; Will Lewis from WFMZ 69 News; and Lin Erickson, Da Vinci Science Center Executive Director and CEO. It was a fun time, all in support of the Da Vinci Science Center and its two-day exploration of water.
Opportunities to have fun and make a difference in the community are an honor and privilege for all of us at PBS39. We look forward to working with the Miracle League and Da Vinci Science Center again in the future!
