Thank You, Thank You, Thank You (A Brewfest Retrospective)

Brewfest-2015Guests line up to gain entry to the Fifth Annual PBS39 MicroBrew Festival, held at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown on May 30, 2015Jessica Lee After months of hard work, planning and anticipation, the Fifth Annual PBS39 MicroBrew Festival is in the books. This past Saturday’s event sold out for the second year in a row, welcoming more than 1,400 craft beer and public media enthusiasts.

It was amazing to see this enormous undertaking come to life. As a Brewfest “rookie,” I had yet to set foot inside of Coca-Cola Park for the event – or any other, for that matter – before this weekend. I had heard stories about how much fun the event has been in previous years, and I am happy to say that this year’s Brewfest was as enjoyable as advertised for all involved.

We couldn’t have done it without the overwhelming support of the awesome community we share in the Lehigh Valley. Many individuals and organizations combined to make Brewfest a success for the fifth consecutive year. First, we’d like to thank the Lehigh Valley IronPigs for playing host once again. Coca-Cola Park is a beautiful and unique venue, and a true gem of the Lehigh Valley. In addition, the IronPigs’ staff was incredibly helpful and courteous in all phases of the event.

Special thanks are also in order for our sponsors (in alphabetical order): Cigars International, The Express-Times, Fig Bethlehem, Gillespie Printing, Holiday Inn Express & Suites, Joe Wagner Jazz Trio, Lehigh Valley Style, The Morning Call, WDIY and WZZO. The generous contributions of these folks made Brewfest possible.

Joe Wagner Jazz Trio deserves additional recognition for providing our guests with wonderful live entertainment during the VIP session from 1-2 p.m. They shared the stage with Peripheral Vision, the Olympus corporate band, who played three rockin’ sets during our general session from 2-5 p.m.

We are grateful beyond words that we had more brewers attend this year’s event than ever before. Each brought their own unique concoctions to the table for our guests. In particular, we offer congratulations to our 2015 Brewfest category winners: Funk Brewing Company (Best IPA), Kona Brewing Company (Best Pale Ale), Shawnee Craft Brewing Company (Best Belgian), The Ship Inn (Best Porter), Small Town Brewery (Best Hybrid), Straub Brewery (Best Wheat) and Troegs Brewing Company (Best Lager/Pilsner).

Likewise, thank you to our vendors for each adding a unique element to the day’s festivities. Some doubled as sponsors (Cigars International, Fig Bethlehem, WZZO), while others (Bespoke Bacon, Brewscuits, Gail Adams Jewelry, Saint Obnoxious, Sands Bethlehem Event Center, Whimsical Wonders by Kris) simply came out to let our guests enjoy what they have to offer.

Many thanks also go out to our volunteers from PBS39 and Guardian Life Insurance, who helped people along their way and ensured that the day’s festivities ran smoothly. It was a pleasure to have so many people devote their time to this event on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.

Last – but certainly not least – thank you to everyone who spent the day with us! Brewfest is possible every year because you continue to spread the word and come out for an enjoyable afternoon. We hope that you’ll join us again next year. In the meantime, please feel invited to check out everything else PBS39 has to offer.

See you at Brewfest in 2016!
