Community Volunteers Revive Basilio Huertas Senior Center Garden

Posted by Jonathan Bush on

Volunteers from various community organizations came together on Sat., May 16 to revive the vegetable garden located behind the new Hispanic Center of Lehigh Valley’s (HCLV) Fowler Building, located on 4th St. in Bethlehem. The project's goal is to encourage seniors to get involved in cultivating and continuing the process of growing healthy food.

For all involved, gardening is a hobby and important aspect of healthy living. PBS39’s Jonathan Bush was joined by Laurimar Ortega and Damaris Torres from HCLV, Simone Pierson from Donegan Elementary School, local volunteer Julio Ayala and local Girl Scouts in starting the project.

Saturday was just the beginning of a team effort. While much weeding, digging, cultivating and planting was done in one day, work will continue through the summer and early fall until the project is completed.
