Spring Has Sprung: PBS39 Kicks Off Season of Great Community Events
PBS39 had an eventful weekend around the Lehigh Valley, kicking off a spring full of PBS39-themed fun for the whole community.
Our action-packed weekend began right here at home – that is, at the PBS39 Public Media & Education Center – for Cub Scout tours on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The scouts came to PBS39 to earn their Communications badges, and we were glad to help by giving them an exclusive look at a real-live television station.
PBS39 was also on-hand at Northampton Community College’s Fowler Campus for the Cops ‘n Kids Celebration of Reading, where folks from PBS39 were happy to hand out hundreds of books to young South Bethlehem students. Concurrently, we hung out with Sid the Science Kid at the Da Vinci Science Center in Allentown for the PBS39 Earth Day Party. The kids and families who joined us had a unique photo op with Sid and enjoyed some fun, environmentally-inspired activities throughout the day.
As if Saturday didn’t provide enough excitement, PBS39’s very own TeleBear woke up early on Sunday morning for the March of Dimes Walk at Dorney Park. TeleBear was there to cheer on the walkers as they completed their mission, and many young walkers came right up and gave our official mascot a hug. To cap the day, TeleBear had the honor of running into a fellow celebrity – Herbie the Love Bug!
The best part? All of these events are just the beginning of what we have to offer the community this spring. You have plenty more opportunities to enjoy an evening or weekend with us, all in the name of supporting public media.
For instance, excitement is at a fever pitch for Celtic performers Colm Keegan and Laura Durrant, as they prepare to come to PBS39 on Thurs., May 14 at 8 p.m. The pair will be performing an exclusive set that night, and while tickets are still available, they’re going fast. It would be wise not to delay – get yours today!
Speaking of tickets flying off the shelves, it’s officially Brewfest season! The Fifth Annual PBS39 MicroBrew Festival (Sat., May 30, 2 p.m.) is fast-approaching, and will feature something for the beer enthusiast in all of us. If you haven’t yet, you will surely want to confirm that you’ll join us for an afternoon of (21+) fun at Coca-Cola Park.
Then, right before spring gives way to summer on Sat., Jun. 6, our good friend Mary Fahl will return to PBS39. This time, Mary is bringing her guitar for an intimate acoustic performance, and we would love for you to enjoy her unique musical talent at our studio!
Here at PBS39, we couldn’t be more delighted about the opportunities we have to connect with you this spring. We hope to see you out and about with us!
