Children and families will have the opportunity to meet Arthur, the loveable aardvark who is the star of the popular PBS series of the same name, when series illustrator and author Marc Brown comes to Springhouse Middle School (1200 Springhouse Road, Allentown) for a special Arthur Celebration on Saturday, November 18.

The event, presented in partnership between PBS39 and Parkland Community Library, will take place from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Families can hear Marc Brown's stories about how Arthur first appeared on PBS, and how the character became a favorite with young readers for more than 40 years. Those in attendance can also watch Brown sketch Arthur and get a signed copy of an Arthur book, with a percentage of proceeds benefiting Parkland Community Library.

"Our library is so excited to bring children's book author and illustrator Marc Brown to our community. His beloved character, Arthur, is a great role model for our children on how to grow life skills and connect with family and friends," said Carly Simon, Parkland Community Library Marketing Coordinator. "We are thrilled to partner with PBS39 to celebrate one of our favorite PBS KIDS characters. Come out for an afternoon filled with hugs from Arthur and friends who love reading."

The Arthur Celebration will also feature Arthur-themed treats, a prize basket raffle, and Arthur balloons from artist Clay Gunderman. PBS39 will also give away Arthur bookmarks, Arthur and D.W. hats, and hugs and photos with PBS39's mascot, TeleBear.

Free tickets for this event are available at parklandlibrary.org. Registration is required by Saturday, November 11 and space is limited. This event is presented by Friends of the Parkland Community Library and a Wells Fargo / Arangio Foundation Grant.
